More flood victims in Perak this morning

IPOH: The number of flood victims in Perak increased to 386 people from 111 families as of 8am today, compared to 373 victims from 107 families last night.

Perak State Disaster Management Committee secretariat in a statement said all the victims are still housed in four temporary relief centres (PPS) in Kerian and Hilir Perak districts.

According to the secretariat, in Kerian 100 people from 24 families were placed in Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Changkat Lobak PPS and 57 people from 19 families were sheltered in the PPS in SK Alor Pongsu.

In Hilir Perak, the PPS at Padang Tembak multi-purpose hall is housing 185 residents from 55 families, while 44 people from 12 families were relocated at the Teluk Intan Municipal Council PPS (MPTI).

Meanwhile, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) reported that the level of Sungai Bidor in Changkat Jong had eased but was still at a dangerous level when it recorded a height of 3.97 metres compared to the normal level of two metres.

In the meantime, the Perak Public Works Department also said Jalan Kubu Gajah Ijok-Sumpitan in Selama is still closed to all vehicles due to landslides and the public can use the alternative route on Jalan Pintasan Kampung Sumpitan-Kampung Masjid.

Besides that, Jalan Proton City in the Mualim district is still also blocked in both directions and is closed to traffic due to landslides, while in Kerian, Jalan Selama route is only open to heavy vehicles and the public is instructed to use the alternative road on Jalan Alor Pongsu-Bukit Merah Bypass. - Bernama
