Anwar receives courtesy call from senior Chinese minister, extends invitation to Xi Jinping to visit next year

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended an official invittation to Chinese President Xi Jinping to visit Malaysia next year.

The prime minister said he had done so during a meeting with China's Home Affairs Minister Wang Xiaohong when the latter paid a courtesy call on him at his office in Putrajaya.

"This year is the 10th anniversary of the China-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and our two countries will celebrate 50 years of diplomatic ties next year.

"(During the meeting with Wang), I issued a letter of invitation to (Xi) for him to visit Malaysia next year in conjunction with the celebration of the anniversary of our diplomatic relationship.

"InsyaAllah, may there be more opportunities for cooperation between Malaysia and China for our mutual benefit," he said in postings on his various social media accounts.

On his meeting with Wang, who was accompanied by Home Minister Datuk Seri saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Chinese ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing, Anwar said they exchanged opinions on various current international issues, especially those concerning security which required cooperation between the two countries.

"This platform is a good opportunity for us to strengthen the relationship between our two countries in facing security challenges in Asia and the world in general," he said.
