Immigration nabs 12 suspected foreign sex workers in Melaka

MELAKA: A suspected sex worker attempted to evade arrest by climbing out of window on the third floor of a budget hotel before being detained by Immigration officers in Op Gegar in Melaka Raya here yesterday evening (November 6).

Melaka Immigration Department director, Anirwan Fauzee Mohd Aini, said the 27-year-old woman from Thailand was arrested as soon as she clambered down the hotel in the raid at about 6pm.

He said the suspect was among 12 foreign women caught, comprising eight Thai nationals, two Indonesians and one each from Vietnam and Laos aged between 25 and 35.

"All the women were arrested on suspicion of offering sex services for a fee of RM250 to RM350, in addition to violating the conditions of their social visit pass or permit and not having any valid travel documents.

"The immoral activity was offered through the WeChat application and the immigration operation carried out was based on information from the public and our intelligence over two weeks," he said here today (November 7).

He said a total of five summonses were issued to witnesses including the hotel manager and customers of the premises to appear at the Melaka Immigration enforcement division office to assist investigations.

Also seized during the raid were some customer record books, condoms, contraceptive pills and sexual contraptions, he said.

Meanwhile, he said stern action would be taken under the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155) against the owners of the premise and the employers who hired foreigners without valid travel documents and passports or work permits or for harbouring illegal immigrants. – Bernama
