Secretaries-general and govt dept heads told to promote good values to empower Madani concept

PUTRAJAYA: Secretaries-general and government department heads at the federal level must inculcate good values to empower the Madani concept.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali said this could be done by injecting values into every aspect of the country's policies, such as kindness towards the society and the environment; wisdom in making decisions; and raising the level of human dignity.

"Policies cannot be rigid and free from moral values or focus only on the material aspects.

"This is because the country's policies have a huge impact and must be sustainable to benefit society and the well-being of this and future generations."

He said this at his keynote address at the 2023 Madani Public Service Colloquium at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre here, today.

Mohd Zuki also said such values must also be reinforced among the civil service, adding that this must be done to form a generation of policy makers who held values of humanity, and worked towards the goal of the afterlife.

"Therefore, all levels of government need to be given spiritual input in various forms," he added.

He said he hoped all public training institutes such as the Islamic Training Institute of Malaysia and the National Institute of Public Administration would take more proactive steps to ensure that these values were being practised in the civil service.

This, he added, could also be expanded to the over 200 training institutes belonging to the government.

"Programmes such as the Application of Islamic Values as stated in General Circular Number 1 Year 2022, as well as other human development programmes must be implemented by every government agency, spearheaded by all secretaries-general and department heads," said Mohd Zuki.
