MTIB launches campaign at Putra Heights LRT station

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB) today launched a campaign to promote and enhance the country's wood industry.

MTIB chairman Datuk Larry Sng Wei Shien Aimed said it is aimed at encouraging the use of local wood among stakeholders and the public.

The campaign with the slogan "Kayu Malaysia: Kelestarian Teras Keunggulan" also emphasises sustainability throughout the product processing chain.

"The campaign is being conveyed through promotional programmes in the mass media, including television, radio, billboards, newspapers and social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.

"Some of the promotional campaign programmes have begun. The items used in the campaign is meant to capture the attention of the public. We are displaying billboards on major roads and have radio advertisements.

"Today's event will witness the launch of the campaign logo, a TV commercial and advertisements on the LRT system," said Sng when launching the campaign at the Putra Heights LRT station near Subang Jaya here today.

Meanwhile, Plantations and Commodities Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mad Zaidi Mohd Karli, who was at the launch said the wood industry is the third-largest contributor to Malaysia's export revenue.

He said the country's wood-based products have been exported to over 173 countries worldwide.

"The National Timber Industry Strategic Plan (NTISP) 2021-2025 aims to achieve an export value of RM28 billion for the timber industry and a domestic market worth RM20 billion by 2025.

"Strengthening the national timber industry remains a priority for MTIB and the ministry in addressing issues and challenges related to raw materials, labour, logistics, production costs, and productivity as well as international issues such as legality and sustainability."

"I hope that these promotional campaigns with the slogan "Malaysian Wood: The Core of Excellence" will encourage all segments of society to make Malaysian wood products their preferred choice," he said.
