Hannah Yeoh shares grief over Syed Saddiq's legal fate

KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh has expressed her deep sadness regarding Syed Saddiq's prison sentence.

"On a personal front, I am very sad for my friend Syed Saddiq. But I am also aware that the law has its process which must be respected and Syed Saddiq is known to be a fighter," she said in an X post.

Nevertheless, there were mixed reactions from the netizens based on Hannah's tweet.

An X user, @Ismailabinting said that Syed Saddiq is too distant to be labeled a 'fighter.'

"We all know that his political career stands on a foundation of public financing, and today it's widely known that his wealth also rests on public funding.

"This sets a poor example for the younger generation," he added.

@Dylan_to_tsla also commented: "Fighter in terms of talking in public…yes. But fighter for his own personal wealth… a BIG FAT YES."

"As the old saying 'berani buat berani tanggung', he should be brave enough to face the consequences," said another user, @Suraya4Aziz

@ketuakampong "He was set up for the fall. Fell into the trap lock stock and barrel."

However there are also netizens supporting Hannah's tweet.

@ManjitSinghG5 "We know he was set up for the fall. Simply because he rose fast in ranks. Many don't know this. But it is what it is. Hope he gets his justice in the court of appeal," he said.

@bouncy_sarahy said that Malaysia needs to seriously move on to divide jurisdictions powers from legislative so the citizen will have confidence of whatever punishment that the current or past corrupt MP faces from the court.
