Sanusi's Deepavali message: Being minority does not mean being neglected

ALOR STAR: Being a minority does not mean that the Indian community, which accounts for about 6.7 per cent of the Kedah population, is ignored or underserved.

That is the Deepavali message from Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor to Hindus who are celebrating the festival of lights tomorrow.

"Deepavali Nal Valthukal. I wish Happy Deepavali to all Hindus in Kedah. In Kedah, about 6.7 per cent of the population are Hindus, from the total 2.2 million people in the state.

"Minority does not mean being neglected or not being given due attention. Under the 'Kedah Sejahtera – Nikmat Untuk Semua' slogan, the state government is committed to bring prosperity to all people from all walks of life regardless of their racial and religious background," Sanusi said in his Deepavali message.

Sanusi also advised those who are returning to their hometowns to enjoy the holiday season safely.

"As is customary, every time during the festive period, many will embark on lengthy journeys to return to their hometowns to reunite with their relatives and families or simply go for a vacation.

"It is my sincere hope that the joyous occasion of Deepavali will not be marred by heartbreaking news related to accidents and so on. Be safe and take care wherever you are," added Sanusi.
