Agong, Raja Permaisuri congratulate Tony Fernandes for Aviation award win

KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah congratulated Capital A Bhd chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes for being chosen as the Best Asia Pacific CEO at the 2023 Asia Pacific Aviation 100 awards ceremony by Airline Economics in Singapore recently.

The Agong described the award win as acknowledgement of Tony Fernandes as a high-performing Malaysian in the aviation industry in the Asia Pacific region, proving that Malaysia was capable of nurturing individuals with quality, vision and of international standards.

"His Majesty wishes to congratulate Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and prays that he will be blessed with continued success," read a post on Istana Negara's Instagram account.

In a separate Instagram post, the King and Queen also conveyed their well wishes to Major (Rtd) Abdul Manan Abas on his 100th birthday on November 1.

Their Majesties expressed their joy that Abdul Manan is blessed with good health and a long life to be able to celebrate such a special occasion with his family.

Abdul Manan is the first Malaysian to be accepted into the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS), London, the United Kingdom in 1950, three years after he enlisted in the Malaysian Army, to undergo Cadet Officer training before being commissioned as an officer and serving in the Malaysian Army and retiring with the rank of Major on October 31,1969 after 23 years of service.

Al-Sultan Abdullah, who also underwent military training in RMAS from 1978 to 1979, prayed for Abdul Manan's continued health and prosperity.

Abdul Manan, a Selangor native, was conferred the British Armed Forces' Military Cross for his bravery while leading a scouting platoon on a mission to eliminate a communist branch in Raub, Pahang.

He received his medal from then British High Commissioner to Malaya, Sir Donald MacGillivray on behalf of the Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II. – Bernama
