Police confirm identity of man mauled by tiger yesterday

GUA MUSANG: Police have confirmed the identity of the man who was mauled to death by a tiger at Kuala Wok near Pos Pasik here yesterday.

District police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said the victim was a 42-year-old Indonesian national, known as Lalu Sukarya Yahya, a rubber tapper.

"We received a report on the incident from a villager about 9.30am.

"In the report, the villager claimed that he spotted several human body parts while on his way to his workplace in Pos Pasik.

"Suspecting a tiger attack, he then alerted other villagers before informing the police," he said in a statement.

Sik said a police team deployed to the scene later recovered more body parts in the area.

He added that the remains have been sent to Gua Musang Hospital for post mortem.

The incident was the second reported in the area since October.

Last month, a 25-year-old Orang Asli man was mauled to death by a tiger also in Pos Pasik.

Pisie Amud was reported missing on Oct 4 when he did not return home after going to a nearby village a day before.

His remains were found by villagers with injuries all over his head and body on Oct 5.
