Health Ministry to respond to PAC recommendations by next month

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry is expected to respond to the five recommendations given by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) by next month.

This is following the committee's recent report on the country's Covid-19 management under the ministry.

"In December, InsyaAllah we will get the response (based on our recommendations) from the Health Ministry," said PAC chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin during the committee press conference held at the parliament building today.

Mas Ermieyati was responding to a question on the latest update on the matter.

On Nov 2, PAC had given the Health Ministry two months to respond to five recommendations given by the committee.

A letter would be sent to the ministry for the purpose.

PAC in its report on Oct 30, unveiled that the government had incurred a loss of RM505 million due to 8.5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines that had expired in June this year, as well as 104 defective ventilator machines that were procured by the government through Pharmaniaga Logistics Sdn Bhd (PLSB).

Meanwhile, asked whether more people would be called up including former health minister, following the report, Mas Ermieyati said; "So far, no. Just that the Health Ministry will have to give their response on our recommendations."

Previously, Mas Ermieyati confirmed that the purchase of the 104 faulty Covid-19 ventilators was made during Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba's tenure as the health minister.
