Boycott Israeli-linked products? Then Kelantan govt should stop using their Mercedes, says MP

KUALA LUMPUR: A government backbencher took a potshot at Perikatan Nasional in the Dewan Rakyat today for what he called double standards when pushing the issue of boycotting brands that support Israel.

Chong Zhemin (PH-Kampar), as he ended his comments during the debate on the topic of dietetics and meals at the committee level for the Health Ministry, asked if the Kelantan government was still using luxury cars for official vehicles.

"I read two weeks or so ago, I can't remember exactly when, that Mercedes Benz contributed RM5 million to Israel. I want to ask the Kelantan government whether they are still going to use the four Mercedes Benz they have.

"Do you want to boycott (brands that support Israel) or not?"

Chong said there should not be any sort of double standards when it comes to boycotting products linked to Israel.

"Starbucks and McDonald's you don't want, so don't use Mercedes Benz... can?

"If you want to boycott (Israeli-linked products), don't practise double standards... if you want to boycott, then boycott all. The money has already gone to Israel," he said.
