Terengganu floods: Nearly 5000 affected, 32 temporary relief centres open today

KUALA TERENGGANU: A total of 4,787 victims from 1,260 families are in 32 temporary flood relief centres as of 8am today, in six districts of Terengganu following the first wave of floods that started yesterday.

Dungun became the latest affected district, when a relief centre at SK Tok Kah opened last night to accommodate 23 victims from five families.

According to the Terengganu Disaster Management Committee secretariat, the number of victims in Kuala Nerus district continues to rise.

A total of 1,695 victims from 445 families are in 14 relief centres in the area.

This shows an increase compared to 1,426 individuals from 370 families in 12 relief centres last night.

In Kuala Terengganu, five relief centres are still open to accommodate 1,137 victims from 332 families.

The flood situation in Marang is also becoming more serious as the number of victims has increased to 1,251 individuals from 316 families in seven relief centres.

A total of 673 victims in Besut are taking shelter in four relief centres, while the number of victims in Setiu remains at eight individuals from three families in one relief centre.
