Sultan of Kelantan donates 8 boats for monsoon season operations

KOTA BARU: Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V has donated eight boats to be used during this northeast monsoon season.

State Women and Family Development Committee chairman Rohani Ibrahim, at the state legislative assembly sitting today, said the boats have been deployed to seven districts namely Pasir Mas, Kota Baru, Gua Musang, Tumpat, Kuala Krai, Pasir Puteh and Jeli.

She said a total of 22 additional boats were sent to each with allocation provided by the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).

"The state government via the relevant agencies have made all the necessary preparations to face this monsoon season.

"A total or 7,147 officers from various agencies will be on duty during this season, including from the police, the Fire and Rescue Department and the Civil Defence Force.

"More than 19,000 various assets are needed for rescue operations," she said in reply to a question by Norsham Sulaiman (Pas-Semerak) at the state assembly sitting today.

On flood relief centres, she said a total of 456 have been prepared which can accomodate 191,169 victims.

"In addition, all districts have been told to repair any active relief centres that need to be improved upon.

"At the moment, repair works at 119 relief centres have begun and are scheduled to complete at the end of this month," she added.

On food supplies and other daily necessities for flood victims, she said the Kelantan Welfare Department has set up a depot, 16 stores and 160 forward bases throughout the state.
