TVET Focus: Johor's career programmes elevate technical job prospects

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor state government's Career Movement Programme, is among its proactive steps to ensure graduates' employment opportunities are aligned with local industries.

State Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development, Cooperatives and Human Resources Committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah (BN-Larkin) said the career programme through Johor Strategic Human Capital Unit, is a collaborative initiative involving various agencies including the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso).

It is aimed at providing information and aiding job seekers in diverse sectors while assisting employers in recruiting suitable talents efficiently.

He was replying the question posed by Simpang Jeram assemblyman Nazri Abdul Rahman, during the Fourth Meeting (Budget 2024) of the Second Session of the 15th Johor State Assembly, held at Bangunan Sultan Ismail in Kota Iskandar, near here, today.

Earlier Nazri asked what were the state government's initiatives to facilitate local industries in harnessing job prospects for graduates.

He also asked for clarification on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) significance in ensuring vocational and technical workforce development sustainability in the industry 4.0 era.

The two-day Mega Career Movement Programme MyFutureJobs Johor 2023, was held in July.

Mohd Hairi said during the first day of the programme, 2,034 job opportunities were offered, with salaries of up to RM14,000.

It received 5,727 applications and 3,764 applicants underwent interviews, while

220 job seekers were hired 'on the spot' by employers from sectors such as oil and gas, services, education, manufacturing, construction, hospitality, agriculture, among others.

1,889 applicants received callbacks for a second interview.

The programme also attracted 33 major employers with over 70 per cent of the jobs offered pertaining to TVET-related fields, including Malaysia Marine & Heavy Engineering Sdn Bhd, KPJ Johor Specialist Hospital, POS Malaysia, and Malaysia Automotive Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii).
