Palestinian teen recounts horrors of Israeli captivity

KUALA LUMPUR: A recently-released Palestinian teen recounted the atrocities he endured while held captive by the Israelis.

Omar Al Atshan, arrested at the age of 15, has just been released after serving a sentence of over two years.

In an interview with an Al Jazeera journalist at his home, he described his emotions after the release.

"I feel very happy, thank God. But unfortunately we all find our joy incomplete. We hope that all prisoners will be released and may all the martyrs rest in peace."

When questioned about the conditions in prison, he described it as extremely challenging.

"The situation in prison is very tough. It's humiliating. We are deprived of everything. We do not even have blankets.

"We don't have any beds to sleep on. I hope that everyone will be released," said Omar.

Acknowledging that the situation worsened following the war's onset, Omar stated, "Yes, since Oct 7 we did not have access to news and all our hearts were with Gaza and may all the martyrs rest in peace."

Despite his harrowing experience, Omar confidently expressed that he was not afraid of being arrested again.

Omar and his family hold a steadfast belief that God is on their side, anticipating victory in the near future.
