Fahmi: Dr M not giving good advice to opposition MPs

KUALA LUMPUR: Government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil has refuted Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's allegation that opposition members of parliament (MPs) were bribed in exchange for support for the prime minister.

Instead, the Communications and Digital Minister urged Dr Mahathir to play a more effective advisory role in opposition-controlled states.

"I think Tun is not giving them good advice.

"Tun should advise them to come along and meet with the Deputy Prime Minister for a discussion so that both parties can reach a consensus to resolve this issue and live in harmony and peace," Fahmi said when by the reporters after attending an event in Kuala Lumpur.

Earlier today, Dr Mahathir pointed fingers at the Madani government, claiming they are engaging in bribery to gain support from opposition MPs.

This comes in response to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's statement on Sunday, who refuted any suggestion of bribery in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia MPs' support.

"Bersatu representatives who switched support to the 10th prime minister admit receiving allocations for their constituencies, usually given only to government representatives.

"All these benefits are still considered corruption because those who do not support the PM do not receive them," Dr Mahathir said in a posting on X, formerly known as Twitter today.
