Sarawak's Year Six, Form Three assessments in line with national education policy, says minister

BANGI: The Sarawak state government's introduction of assessments for Year Six and Form Three students will not deviate from the National Education Policy as long as they are categorised as such, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

She said this when asked about potential conflicts between the state's assessment approach and the national policy.

"Even if the policy (introduced by the Sarawak government) is considered an assessment, it means that it is still on track with (the National Education Policy).

"So if the Sarawak state government remains on this path (categorising the Year Six and Form Three as assessments), I think it has not gone far from it (the National Education Policy)." she said.

Fadhlina also assured readiness to support the state government in managing these assessments, stating, "We are prepared to extend assistance to enhance the assessment process in Sarawak."

Earlier, she launched the National Digital Education Policy at the Bangi Avenue Convention Centre. The policy aims to foster digital proficiency among both teachers and students.

Also present were the Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying and the ministry's Educational Resources and Technology division director Zainal Abas.

Yesterday, the Sarawak Ministry for Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) announced intention to implement the proposed standard assessments for Year Six and Form Three students that emphasise Dual Language Programme (DLP) subjects by 2025.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee In said the Education Ministry is supportive towards the proposal and has agreed to assist in the implementation of such assessments across all the public schools in the state.
