KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Watch (MCW) has unequivocally called on Aman Palestin to adopt a more professional stance and cooperate fully with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in its investigation, without interference.
Its president Jais Abdul Karim said MCW believed that MACC was taking actions based on data and facts.
MCW asserted that such situations should not arise if Aman Palestin consistently practices clean governance and transparency in all their operations, he said.
"In our observation, any attempts to challenge the investigative process in this case seem to suggest hidden agendas or matters that some parties may want to keep undisclosed.
"Referring to a statement by MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, the freezing of the bank accounts was carried out in accordance with the law and standard procedures in corruption investigations.
"MACC is prepared to present a justification to the court for freezing the assets of Aman Palestin Berhad based on Section 44(1) of the AMLATFPUAA 2001, which empowers law enforcement agencies to issue orders to freeze the assets of any individual," he said in a statement.
Jais added that Aman Palestin, claiming to be an NGO advocating for humanitarian rights for the past 18 years should be more mature and provide full cooperation in the investigation process.
"Let MACC continue the investigation firmly and fairly. Do not challenge or undermine the pursuit of justice.
"The investigation should proceed without any pressure, aiming to eradicate any oppression against the Malaysian people who may have been deceived by contributions to Palestinian humanitarian aid over the years."
Yesterday, Aman Palestin gave MACC three days to unfreeze its account or face legal action.
However, MACC remained adamant that it will not unfreeze the Aman Palestin accounts and is ready to address legal challenges.
