Municipal council to decide on fines or warnings for Loy Krathong Festival organisers in Bachok

KOTA BARU: The municipal council will have the authority to determine whether fines or warnings are imposed on the organisers of the Loy Krathong Festival in Bachok last Friday.

Local Government, Housing, Health, and Environment chairman Hilmi Abdullah said they were now awaiting the Bachok municipal council's decision.

"The violation of conditions that occurred is not a significant issue considering that the event had a permit, but it has been magnified by certain parties.

"Nevertheless, whether fines or warnings will be imposed on the event organisers is up to the licensing officer, namely the head of the Bachok municipal council. We will accept any decision made," he said.

Hilmi Abdullah said this during a press conference after today's exco meeting in Kota Darulnaim.

Yesterday, the Kelantan state government clarified that the Loy Krathong Festival concert in Bachok, featuring singers from Thailand, had the necessary permit. However, the organisers failed to comply with some of the stipulated regulations.

Among the identified violations were the appearance of a singer from Thailand who did not adhere to dress code etiquette and Muslim attendees were allowed at the concert.

Emphasising the festival's 29-year tradition, the Loy Krathong concert organisers stressed its importance as a significant celebration for the Siamese community and hoped others would not exacerbate the situation.
