Prasarana to enable credit and debit card payments at rail stations by July

KUALA LUMPUR: Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) is aiming to enable credit and debit card payments at ticketing counters, including for the My50 travel pass, at all rail stations by July next year.

In a statement, Prasarana said they would also be introducing an open payment system for all rail services by the fourth quarter in 2025.

It was responding to an article by the New Straits Times earlier today in which train commuters were dissatisfied by the lack of options for topping up their monthly My50 passes and had to make a beeline for the station counters to do so with just cash.

Prasarana has clarified that the My50 travel pass, which is only available to Malaysians, can be purchased at all rail stations using cash or QRPay, or at key bus hubs using cash.

Commuters who opt to purchase the My50 online via MyRapid Shop on the other hand have the option to use credit card, debit card or online transfer.

"However, the My50 pass needs to be physically activated over the counter at any rail station and key bus hubs in order to authenticate the user's Malaysian identity card.

"With regards to the user's comments in the article about ticket vending machines (TVMs) at Maluri MRT station, please be informed that Maluri MRT station has six TVMs to purchase tokens and two (2) Add Value Machines (AVMs) to top up Touch 'n Go (TNG) cards.

"At the moment, only cash payments are accepted at these machines. Payments using credit and debit cards at TVMs and ticketing counters are currently only available at stations on the Putrajaya Line," it said.
