Zayn Rayyan murder: Police to question witnesses, including parents

PETALING JAYA: Police will be visiting the site where the body of 6-year-old Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin was found to ensure that all evidence and clues are gathered to aid the investigation.

Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said efforts to track down the suspect has been ongoing since the body's discovery at 10pm last night.

"We will be calling in all witnesses in the case including the parents, neighbours as well as those who found the body.

"We will also be revisiting the site for possible new clues," he said when met at the Seksyen 9 Muslim cemetery in Kota Damansara tonight, where Zayn was laid to rest.

He said the case has been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code after autopsy reports found ligature marks on the boy's neck and body.

Zayn Rayyan went missing on Tuesday afternoon after his mother had fetched him from school. She was walking upstairs with him to their Idaman Apartments unit in Damansara Damai when she realised that he wasn't with her.

The boy, who is autistic, was also not at the nearby playground when the mother went to check.

She then lodged a police report.

A massive search and rescue operation was launched comprising multi-agencies including the local neighbourhood watch.

Searchers, including police's K9 unit, had combed a 300-metre area.

His body, still in his school uniform, was found along the banks of a stream some 200 metres from where he was last seen.

Police had initially classified the case as sudden death. Howeve, a post-mortem examination today showed that he had ligature marks on his neck and body.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan subsequently announced that the case has been reclassified as murder.
