Roadworker killed in hit-and-run incident involving a trailer on NSE

KLUANG: A 51-year-old roadworker installing barriers on KM63.5 of the North-South Expressway was killed when a trailer crashed into him in the wee hours today (Dec 9).

The victim identified as K Krishnan Kutty died instantly of head injuries, when the trailer driver traveling from Johor Baru heading towards Kuala Lumpur, hit him at in the expressway's northbound lane at 1.45am.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh, who confirmed the accident said investigations revealed the victim was walking outside the emergency lane on the left lane of the highway, which was out of the "safety zone".

The area where the roadworkers were working was marked with safety cones. However, it is believed the victim walked out of the safety zone when the crash occured," he said.

Police are in the midst of tracking the trailer driver, who continued on with his journey despite the accident.

The area where the roadworkers were was dark as there were no street lights.

The victim's colleagues, who alerted the police were unable to identify the trailer's registration number.

The case is investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
