Perkeso cyber attack: Operations running smoothly without any issues

KUALA LUMPUR: Individuals implicated in the cyber attack on the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) will face action after a thorough internal investigation.

Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar, said so far, the situation is under control, and ongoing measures are being implemented by his team in response to the cyber attack.

He also mentioned that Perkeso's operations continue to run smoothly without any issues.

"Perkeso has taken initial steps to address the issue, and I assure you that Perkeso's operations are running as usual.

"All compensation payments and benefits to contributors are proceeding as normal. New applications received by Perkeso will also be processed and approved as before.

"There are no operational problems. However, further action will be taken if we identify those involved in the hacking," he told the media when met today.

On Dec 8, Perkeso confirmed that its system, information base, and website were hacked since Dec 2.

In a statement, they said a crisis management plan was activated on the same day with its information technology and communication technology (ICT) unit mobilising a system recovery.

Yesterday, it was reported that the forensic investigations, including into the alleged involvement of certain parties in the cyber attack on Perkeso were ongoing.

Perkeso chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said that the agency, in a meeting with the National Security Council, agreed to file a police report following an internal forensic investigation, which found elements of commercial crime.

Following that, Sivakumar emphasised that proactive measures will be taken to ensure that the same issue does not happen again.

"I am confident that this matter will be completely under control, and we will take all necessary steps to prevent a recurrence of such a situation in the future."

On another development, he disclosed that the ministry plans to amend several Acts related to Perkeso.

"With these amendments, we hope to provide enhanced social protection for workers," he said.
