"I hope he goes to jail", Azalina says after Stampa charged in Spanish court

KUALA LUMPUR: "I want him to be jailed because he (Stampa) was so rude"

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said expressed her strong wishes for the Spanish arbitrator, Dr Gonzalo Stampa to be thrown into jail over the US$14.9 billion (RM70.19b) "Sulu Award".

With two charges being read against Stampa at the Madrid Criminal Court, Azalina said she hoped that the Spanish court would jail the illegitimate arbitrator because what he did was unacceptable.

She said this during the press conference via Google Meet this evening.

She said that the Spanish court has charged Stampa on two counts of charges namely contempt of court for going against the country's judicial repeated warning against him and also for unqualified practicing as he was an illegitimate arbitrator.

"So it means that there are two charges on him for his behaviour in refusing to abide by the court order," she said.

She also said with the case against Stampa being mentioned in Madrid Criminal Court, no rogue arbitrator will be awarded again by any court.

Earlier today, it was reported that the criminal charges against Stampa, responsible for the US$14.9 billion "Sulu Award" fraud in the Madrid Criminal Court, Spain signified the commencement of justice for the 32 million people of Malaysia.

Describing today as a 'significant day' for Malaysia, Azalina said that Malaysia has full confidence in the Spanish justice system.

Azalina said that Stampa faces serious criminal charges for contempt of court and unprofessional conduct without qualifications, brought by the Prosecutors' Offices of Spain and Malaysia because he openly and intentionally defied several binding orders from the Madrid High Court.
