Anwar announces changes to Cabinet, Amir Hamzah appointed Finance Minister II [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: After months of speculation, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has finally announced a reshuffling of his Cabinet.

The prime minister said after carrying out its responsibilities for a year there were some changes that were needed based on current needs.

"After discussing with major component parties, I made suggestions to the Yang DiPertuan Agong for approval," he said.

Swearing in of new cabinet members would be done this afternoon.

Employees Provident Fund (EPF) chief executive officer Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan will be appointed as second Finance Minister II.

Earlier, Amir Hamzah was sworn in as senator. He took his oath of office before Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar this morning.

Amir Hamzah joined the EPF in 2021 and is the eldest son of former Petronas chairman and president Tun Azizan Zainul Abidin.

With a corporate experience spanning more than 27 years, Amir Hamzah began his career with the Shell Group of Companies before serving as CEO for MISC Berhad.

He was also part of Petronas Dagangan Bhd, Petronas Lubricants International, Icon Offshore Bhd and Themed Attractions Resorts and Hotels Sdn Bhd.

He holds a BSc in Management (majoring in Finance and Economics) from Syracuse University, New York.
