Pahang first state to offer insurance protection for tour guides, boat operators and mountain guides

KUANTAN: Pahang became the first state to provide group insurance coverage for some 800 active tour guides, boat operators and mountain guides across the state.

State Unity, Tourism and Culture Committee chairman Leong Yu Man said the insurance protection scheme worth RM300,000 per year was introduced last month and will provide coverage until 2026.

"About 800 registered tour guides, boat operators, and mountain guides who are also Bantuan Prihatin Pahang (BPP) recipients across Pahang are automatically entitled for insurance coverage. They are now protected in case of accidents while carrying out their duties.

"Recipients are insured up to RM100,000 in the event of accidental death or permanent disability, RM2,500 in medical expenses as a result of accidents and RM50 will be paid as daily cash allowance for hospitalisation up to 30 days," she told reporters after distributing the Bantuan Prihatin Pahang for mountain guides, tour guides and boat operators at the Pahang Tourism office here today.

Earlier, Leong distributed the RM200 cash aid to 91boat operators, mountain guides and tour guides in Kuantan with a total cost of RM18,200.

She said the Pahang government had set aside RM160,000 through BPP for 800 tour guides, boat operators, and mountain guides in Pahang and the payments will be done in stages until the end of this month.

On a separate matter, Leong said Pahang's tourist arrivals totaled 9.8 million as of September this year and she was optimistic to achieve the 13 million tourists target set this year.

"Despite the ongoing monsoon season, we have several activities including the Monsoon Golf Challenge in Rompin and surfing festival at Kampung Cherating here held this month....these events will help lure visitors.Last year, Pahang recorded a total of 10.18 million in tourist arrivals," she said.
