'We condemn Israel; Asean-Japan must work together to call for peace'- Anwar

TOKYO: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today reiterated Malaysia's stance on the war in Palestine and once again condemned Israeli destruction of Gaza.

In the first session of the Asean-Japan Summit, Anwar was calling for stronger commitment towards upholding humanitarian and international laws as the world sees itself in a state of polycrisis.

He then touched on the situation in Gaza, saying that Malaysia- along with all other Asean nations- welcomes the adoption of the recent United Nations General Assembly resolution on Dec 12 demanding for a humanitarian ceasefire and release of hostages.

Comparing the continued Israeli attacks on Gaza to the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings in World War 2, Anwar said efforts towards peace must be done collectively.

"We (Malaysia) of course condemn the continued Israeli destruction of Gaza. Atrocities that only remind us of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Collectively we must support efforts towards peaceful and durable solutions to the Palestinian-Israel conflict," he said.
