Sabah Covid-19 cases rose over 350 per cent this week

KOTA KINABALU: The number of Covid-19 cases in Sabah has increased by 356 per cent as compared to the previous week.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Dr. Joachim Gunsalam said between December 10 and 16, during the 50th epidemiology week, Sabah reported 984 cases with one death, compared to 216 cases the previous week.

Kota Kinabalu recorded the highest number of cases at 413, followed by Penampang with 109 and Tuaran with 100.

Other districts with double-digit cases include Kota Belud (66), Papar (62), Putatan (60), Beaufort (35), Sandakan (29), Lahad Datu (22), Keningau (18), and Tawau (10).

"Four districts without cases were Nabawan, Kunak, Beluran, and Kalabakan," Dr Joachim said in a statement.

At Press time, 135 individuals are seeking treatment at public hospitals and four are at private health institutions.

Four of them require critical care with an additional two on ventilators.

Sabah recorded 109 new Covid-19 cases today.

Dr Joachim advised the public to practice optimal personal hygiene, wear face masks in public places, and apply the TRIIS (Test, Report, Isolate, Inform, and Seek) approach when experiencing Covid-19 symptoms.

"For those who have yet to be vaccinated or received booster doses, to reduce the risks of infection, please contact the nearest clinics."

Individuals at risk are also encouraged to obtain the antiviral Paxovid.
