Johor records new Covid-19 death

JOHOR BARU: Johor has recorded one new Covid-19 death in the 51st Epidemiological Week (ME51/2023).

Johor Health and Unity Committeechairman Ling Tian Soon, stated that three more patients are still being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU), with 123 patients undergoing treatment in the state's hospitals.

He mentioned that the reporting pattern of Covid-19 in Johor over the past few months has shown a sudden increase.

"The Johor government and the State Health Department will continue to monitor the development of Covid-19 infections to ensure that preventive measures and controls are implemented continuously."

"Cumulatively, Johor Baru has reported the highest number of Covid-19 cases until week 51, totaling 2,431 cases, followed by Kulai (885) and Batu Pahat (812). Until last Saturday (week 51), there have been a total of 404,309 reported Covid-19 cases in Johor, with 401,216 cases being local infections. The remaining 3,093 are import cases. The daily Covid-19 incident rate for week 51 is 8.44 per 100,000 population," he said in a statement today.

Tian Soon emphasised that the Johor government takes the current Covid-19 situation seriously and advises the public to remain vigilant during the long festive holiday season.

"The public is encouraged to continue practising health precautions such as wearing face masks and avoiding the 3Cs: crowded places, confined spaces, and close conversations.

"Individuals who have not received their Covid-19 booster doses are advised to register and get vaccinated promptly to protect themselves and their families," he added.
