11-year-old Damia's body recovered from floodwaters

RANTAU PANJANG: "Alhamdulillah (Thank God) my daughter's body was found, even though she has passed away," said Mohd Sabri Mohd Noor.

Mohd Sabri, 33, is the father of Nur Damia Qaisara, 11, who was discovered this morning after falling while playing in floodwaters at the Kampung Petai Dusun River, Baroh Pial, here, yesterday.

Upon being informed by the rescue team about Damia's discovery, he said he felt weak in the legs, but he remained emotionally strong.

"My wife, Farah Adnan, 32, and I have continuously prayed throughout the search and rescue operation to facilitate all the efforts of the rescue team.

"This morning, we had to accept our most feared news. God only granted us 11 years with Damia; we accept the passing of our good child," he said.

Yesterday, it was reported that a standard five student was found drowned while her friend remained missing after falling into the Kampung Petai Dusun River.

Siti Aisyah Mahzi, 11, was found drowned, while Nur Damia Qaisara, 11, remained missing.

Meanwhile, Rantau Panjang Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Shapawi Stapa said Damia was found around 8am, 100 metres away from where the first victim, Siti Aisyah, was found.

"We are in the process of retrieving the body to hand it over to the police to be taken to the forensic unit of Tanah Merah Hospital for further investigation.

"Due to the flood-affected location of the incident, we faced some difficulties in retrieving the body as the main road was submerged in water up to one metre," he added.
