Foreign couple arrested for suspected murder

JOHOR BARU: Police arrested and charged a foreign couple for allegedly stabbing their family member to death, at a flat unit in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, near here, on Sunday.

The 41-year-old victim, who is a foreigner was found dead in the flats with multiple stab-wounds. She shared the unit, with her 24-year-old brother and his 41-year-old wife, who are also foreigners.

Johor Baru (North) police chief Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh said the arrest was made at 7.47pm after a 4.35am report lodged by a concerned-neighbour on Christmas eve.

Police also seized a knife, believed to be the murder-weapon in the 2.30am stabbing.

The couple were arrested near a garbage disposal area within the flats compound.

Police remained tight-lipped on the motive behind the murder and their nationalities, citing investigations are underway.

However, it is learnt from neighbours that the victim had multiple stab wounds and the household argued regularly.

Police classified the case as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which is punishable with a death penalty or an imprisonment term up to 40 years, with not less than 12 strokes of caning.
