Palestinian Ambassador calls for immediate permanent ceasefire in Gaza Strip, wants humanitarian corridor for aid

KUALA LUMPUR: The Palestinian Ambassador to Malaysia has once again called for a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, as Israeli aggression on Palestinians enters its 81st day.

Walid Abu Ali said Israel was in violation of international law, adding that no single square metre of Palestinian land was safe from Israeli attacks.

"It's very important that the international community takes serious action against this genocide and massacre.

"We need an immediate and permanent ceasefire and ensure a humanitarian corridor to help those who are in need.

"My message to Malaysians and the international community is for all of you to keep your influence through your international relations and put pressure on Israel to stop this war and genocide."

Walid said based on official data, a total of 20,674 Palestinians had been killed since Oct 7, including 8,000 children and 6,200 women, with over 54,000 people injured.

The war had also destroyed three churches, 112 mosques, 110 clinics, and 26 hospitals, also killing 310 health personnel and 97 journalists.

He said 305,000 houses have been destroyed, along with 352 education facilities as well as 42 United Nations Relief and Works Agency schools.

Walid, meanwhile, also urged for a reform of all international representation within the United Nations (UN), including a review of the veto power of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council (UNSC).

"Whenever a resolution (for Palestine) is introduced through any UN form, such as the UN General Assembly or the UNSC, the United States will use their veto.

"They've used their veto powers many times against our interests, and unfortunately, they keep silent when it comes to Israel.

"We are victims of double standards as Palestinians, and that's how we suffer."

He said this after receiving 2,000 scarfs with the Palestinian keffiyeh design from Koperasi Amanah Pelaburan Bhd (KAPB) here, today.

KAPB chairman Datuk Ilyas Mohamed said the scarfs would be distributed to Malaysians as well as the Palestinian community in the country.

"These scarves are a sign of solidarity towards the Palestianians and their suffering.

"We will also be sending four containers of winter blankets which will be shipped to Palestine via Egypt sometime this week," Ilyas told reporters today.

He also said KAPB is committed to rebuild a mosque and a hospital in Gaza once the war in Palestine was over.

"We have been asked by the administrators through the Palestinian Embassy to rebuild one hospital and a mosque.

"We don't know when we can start this process, but this is our commitment," he added.
