Number of flood victims in Pahang drops to 333 as of tonight

KUANTAN: The flood situation in Pahang continues to improve with only 333 evacuees remaining in two districts compared to 700 victims earlier today.

As of 8pm, the victims from 82 families are seeking shelter at six flood relief centres (PPS), namely five PPS in Raub and one in Lipis.

A state Civil Defence Force (APM) spokesman said the number of flood victims in both the districts registered a significant drop compared to earlier today.

"Currently, Raub has 324 victims from 80 families while Lipis has nine evacuees from two families seeking shelter at the Kampung Lentang multipurpose hall. Earlier today, Raub registered 463 victims while Lipis had 235 victims.

"The floodwater in most areas has completely receded and more victims are expected to return after cleaning their homes tomorrow," he said.

The PPS in Raub was opened in stages from 12.40am yesterday, while the PPS in Lipis began operating at noon yesterday.

Meanwhile, six rivers in five districts in the state remain above the danger level at 8pm today after breaching the danger mark following several days of continuous downpour.

The water level at Sungai Tanum in Chegar Perah, Lipis registered a reading of 99.48m compared to 98m which had been set as the danger level.

The other five rivers are Sungai Tembeling at Kampung Bantal Seberang in Jerantut recorded 108.51m (danger level 106m), Sungai Lembing here recorded 37.83m (danger level 36m) and Sungai Pahang at Kuala Sungai Chini in Pekan registered a level of 15.94m (danger level 14.90).

Sungai Pukin and Sungai Keratong in Rompin registered 47.72m and 11.54m respectively, compared to 45m and 11m which had been set as the danger level.
