Some 100 people gather for planned 'blockade' outside US Embassy

KUALA LUMPUR: Some 100 people have started gathering in front of Menara TH Tun Razak for the proposed six-day "blockade" outside the United States (US) Embassy here.

The group is expected to march to the US Embassy in solidarity with Palestine and in response to the veto of United Nations' efforts to push for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Participants of the gathering were seen holding placards such as "US Embassy, Nest For Terrorists" and others as well as chanting "Free Palestine" prior to the march.

The protest started off with the participants waving Palestinian and Malaysian flags, and laying an Israeli flag on the road as vehicles were passing through.

Checks by the New Straits Times showed participants from a total of 13 political parties from both sides of the divide joined the gathering dubbed as #Kepung Demi Palestine.

Among party leaders present were MCA Youth deputy chief Mike Chong Yew Chuan, Muda secretary-general Amir Hariri Abd Hadi and former Batu MP Tian Chua, who is also part of "Solidariti Palestin" secretariat.

At press time, there were more than 30 policemen around the vicinity of Menara TH Tun Razak, with seven patrol cars lining up on the roadside.
