Kampung Tersang residents devastated as severe flooding submerges nearly 60 homes [NSTTV]

RANTAU PANJANG: Residents of almost 60 homes in Kampung Tersang remain despondent as they watch their houses submerged in water, with only rooftops visible.

Suriani Daud, a 50-year-old resident currently seeking refuge at a temporary flood relief centre at SK Gual To'Deh, expressed her profound sadness over the worsening floods.

"Our hearts ache witnessing the submersion of nearly 60 houses in Kampung Tersang, where only rooftops break the water's surface," she said.

She recounted that when she moved to the temporary relief centre two weeks ago during the second wave, the water level had not reached inside the houses. However, this time, the flood is exceptionally severe, reminiscent of the situations in December last year and February this year.

She was at a loss upon visiting her home with her husband, where they found only rooftops visible.

"Only Allah knows how we feel and the anguish of realising that all belongings are irretrievable.

"Only important documents are safe; everything else is gone. I am not the only one. Almost 60 houses in Kampung Tersang are submerged. I am at a loss thinking about our fate after this, considering the possibility of more waves of flooding in the future," she shared.

Another resident, Mohd Irwan Faizal, 40, also shared his experience, mentioning that even his house, located on the highest point in the village, was submerged, revealing only the rooftop.

"Until yesterday, I saw that the water level was still high. It's heartbreaking to see all the belongings in the house floating.

"This flood here is severe, just like last December, and we cannot imagine our lives as residents here after this. This is the third time we have been hit by floods, and it's the worst we've ever experienced," he said.
