Member banks to provide financial assistance to flood-affected customers - ABM

KUALA LUMPUR: Member banks of The Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) are ready and committed to offering financial assistance to their customers affected by the floods.

In a statement today, ABM said similar to previous years, its member banks have in place specific, accessible and compassionate flood relief assistance for their customers who have been impacted by the floods.

The association said that the assistance offered is based on customised programmes by individual banks and may include but is not limited to deferment of repayment of loans/financing, waiver of fees and charges to replace lost/damaged bank documents and bank cards, and more.

In addition, ABM said micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) affected by floods may apply for the Disaster Relief Facility (DRF) to facilitate the resumption of their business operations.

The list of participating banks is available from Bank Negara Malaysia's website, www.bnm.gov.my/documents/20124/6025157/drf_pfi_en.pdf.

"Customers in flood-affected areas are advised to refer to announcements by their respective banks for guidance and assistance in applying for flood relief assistance," the association said.

ABM also noted that bank customers can rest assured that the association member banks will implement various measures to ensure basic and convenient banking services remain accessible to flood affected customers as part of the banks' emergency flood preparations.

It said notices will be put up at affected branches as well as the banks' websites informing customers of the nearest alternative bank branch to carry out their banking.

"Flood-affected customers who require assistance are advised to contact their banks directly through the banks' official channels," it said

A list of contact details for ABM member banks can be obtained from ABM's website via www.abm.org.my

"Customers are reminded to be wary of scammers and only apply for financial assistance through official bank channels," ABM added. – BERNAMA
