Floods: Number of victims in Terengganu decreased, but there is an increase in Kelantan

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood victims has decreased to 24,815 this evening in Terengganu, compared with 25,936 reported at noon, while Kelantan saw a slight increase in affected individuals.

According to InfoBencana JKM, positive progress is evident in Terengganu, where 7,105 people sought shelter at 4.11 pm, down from 8,719 at noon.

This improvement is credited to the closure of 17 temporary relief centres (PPS). Currently, 2,004 families are seeking refuge at 76 PPS in the region.

However, the situation in Kelantan has worsened, with the number of flood victims increasing to 17,335 individuals at 4 pm, compared to 16,789 at noon.

A total of 5,545 people are seeking shelter at 84 PPS.

The statement also underscored that the flood situation in Johor (83), Pahang (74), Selangor (140), and Sabah (4) remains consistent since the number of people affected decreased at noon.

Earlier reports indicated that more than 28,000 people had been evacuated due to floods nationwide this morning, marking a significant increase from the 25,000 evacuees recorded yesterday evening.

The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) revealed that the largest number of flood victims continues to be in Kelantan, and unfortunately, two fatalities have been recorded in the state on Sunday (Dec 24) and yesterday (Dec 25).

The number of states affected by floods has now increased from four to six, with people being evacuated in Johor and Sabah.
