KULAI: KULAI: Police recorded the statement of a 29-year-old express bus driver whose bus veered off the road and overturned at Km41.3 of the North-South Highway (Northbound) here today.

Police's preliminary investigations revealed that the bus driver, transporting 35 passengers from Singapore heading towards Kuala Lumpur, had lost control and veered off the road, before it overturned on the left side of the highway.

District police chief Superintendent Tan Seng Lee said the driver's statement was recorded to facilitate investigation under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which stipulates a fine between RM5,000 and RM10,000 with a maximum 12-year imprisonment term upon conviction.

He said three passengers sustained minor injuries and were rushed to the Kluang Hospital, while the remaining passengers including the driver escaped injuries.

Tan also advised motorists, especially commercial vehicle drivers to practice extra caution while driving during rain.

"It's the monsoon season now, and we are experiencing frequent rain…its crucial for drivers to be on alert and caution on the roads," he said.
