SAR for boy feared drowned in Sungai Tok Hakim continues

KUALA TERENGGANU: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for Muhammad Harraz Ilman Mohd Syahril Redhuan resumed at 8 am today.

Harraz, 11, is feared to have drowned in Sungai Tok Hakim, Kampung Tok Hakim yesterday evening, here.

The Chief of the Kuala Terengganu Fire and Rescue Department (BBP), who is leading the SAR operation, Rozizah Abni Hajar, stated that today's search involves a radius of 10 meters from the incident site.

"Due to the receding water levels in the morning, we are focusing on the search by conducting dives around the location where the victim was reported missing," she said.

"A total of 46 officers and personnel comprising the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Volunteer Firemen Team (PBS), police, medical officers, and the People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) are involved in this operation," she added.

"Today, we have increased the Underwater Rescue Team (PPDA) members from six to 20 individuals, involving two teams from the Kuala Terengganu Fire and Rescue Department and one from the Kuala Berang Fire and Rescue Department," she mentioned at the scene.

Rozizah stated that during several dives conducted, they encountered numerous tree stumps, branches, and small trees, making the SAR operation challenging along with the extremely swift currents.

Yesterday, it was reported that a boy was feared to have drowned while his brother, Muhammad Firas Wafiy, 9, and their friend were rescued.

Before the incident, the three of them were said to be playing and bathing in the river around 4 pm.
