Unggah applauds Sarawak Budget 2024

KUCHING: The Sarawak Budget for 2024, with a total allocation of RM12.36 billion, underscores the Gabungan Parti Sarawak's (GPS) commitment to a prosperous and sustainable Sarawak.

With the theme 'Development For All: Together, Building A Prosperous, Sustainable and United Sarawak,' the budget aims to boost inclusive growth within the state.

Sarawak's Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah praised the budget's success, driven by sound financial management and community leaders' efforts.

"Sarawak Budget 2024 once again places a significant emphasis on rural development, with a substantial allocation of RM5.695 billion, representing 63 per cent of the total budget.

"Within this allocation, RM550 million will be used for various projects, RM420 million for initiatives under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), RM200 million for regional development agencies, and RM260 million for Rural Small Projects (MRP)," he said.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development Sarawak (MIPD) will receive RM799 million, aimed at improving roads and bridges, especially in rural areas.

This allocation will contribute to the construction and maintenance of roads and bridges, thereby improving safety and accessibility, particularly in rural areas.

In his Christmas and New Year message on Sunday, Dec 24, Unggah expressed gratitude, calling the budget "the greatest Christmas gift."

He commended Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for his leadership and commitment to the welfare of the people.

Unggah also highlighted the importance of fostering religious harmony, ethnic unity and mutual understanding among Sarawak's diverse communities.

He urged everyone to avoid issues that could potentially hinder the successful implementation of the state government's plans and programmes.

As the Christmas celebration approaches, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah encouraged Sarawakians to maintain the tradition of visiting the open houses of their Christian relatives and friends.

He believes that it will not only celebrate the spirit of the season, but also strengthen the bonds of friendship and understanding that exist within the state.

The Sarawak Budget 2024 signifies a comprehensive approach to development, aligning with the GPS government's vision of a prosperous, sustainable, and united Sarawak.

With a strong focus on rural development and infrastructure enhancement, it lays the foundation for a future for all Sarawakians.
