After four days, Fraser's Hill water supply will be fully restored by midnight today

RAUB: The unscheduled water disruption at popular tourist destination Fraser's Hill near here since Dec 24 was triggered by glitches at the water treatment plant (LRA) at the hill station.

Tras assemblyman Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji said the faulty water pumps at the LRA had caused all the taps including at hotels to run dry, forcing water tanker lorries to be deployed to the affected areas.

He said repair works were completed today and water supply is expected to fully recover by tonight.

"There were issues with the water pump at the LRA on December 24 and Paip (Pengurusan Air Pahang Bhd) immediately engaged the contractors to fix the problem. One of the faulty pumps has been repaired and water supply will resume as usual by tonight," he said when contacted.

Social media users shared on Facebook about the unscheduled water interruption at Fraser's Hill and reminded those planning a trip to spend the night there to check with their respective hotels if water supply has been restored. A visitor to the hill station wrote on Facebook that she was not informed about the issue and only knew about it after checking in on Christmas Day while another wrote that he travelled down to Kuala Kubu Baru from Fraser's Hill to buy water and food.

Many who were presumably planning their year-end holidays at Fraser's Hill wrote on Facebook seeking updates if water supply had been restored. Meanwhile, Tengku Zulpuri admitted the water supply problem happened at the wrong time as a lot of people had planned to travel to Fraser's Hill to spend the long festive weekend.

"This is the peak season for the tourism industry but sadly this happened but repair works have been completed. I will speak to the Paip management as soon as possible so that they will replace the aging water pumps with new units to ensure such problems do not occur in the future," he said.

Meanwhile, Raub member of parliament Chow Yu Hui described the matter as serious especially when people were planning to visit Fraser's Hill during the long holidays.

"Paip informed me about the breakdown and I told them to speed up the repair works and ensure water supply is restored as soon as possible. There appears to be some delays," he said, adding the current four-day disruption as the longest water cuts in the area.

It is learnt that the repair works were supposed to be completed by Tuesday (Dec 26) night but some setbacks forced the works to be extended to 11pm on Dec 27.
