9 areas at risk of landslides identified through Early Warning System

KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Works Department's (PWD) Slope Engineering Branch has identified nine areas with possible risks of landslides through its Early Warning System (SAA).

In a statement, it said in preparation for the monsoon transition period (MTL), precautionary measures and monitoring by the district and state involved along the road sections within a radius of 5km to 10km from the rain gauge stations were required.

As such, the department found that six out of nine stations have reached the danger threshold based on the instances of rain within a 14-day period.

"Locations which have reached the danger threshold are the station in Section 142.3 of the East-West Highway in Hulu Perak, Perak; JKR Sungai Burong Quarters, Brinchang, Section 63 and Section 15, Ringlet-Sungai Koyan Road in Cameron Highlands, Pahang.

"Meanwhile in Kelantan, stations that are in the danger threshold are Section 205.9, East-West Highway (FT004) in Jeli, and Sections 60.1 and 66, Simpang Pulai-Gua Musang Road in Gua Musang."

Meanwhile, Sections 44 and 48, Simpang Pulai-Gua Musang Road in Cameron Highlands and the JKR Transit House Selangor, Fraser Hills in Raub, Pahang are at the alert level.
