DBKL orders removal of security grilles blocking Wangsa Maju flat corridors

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has instructed the management of the Wangsa Maju Section 2 Flat to take action regarding complaints about the installation of security grilles obstructing the corridors.

According to a statement by DBKL, the directive was issued after an inspection conducted by DBKL through the Commissioner of Buildings Kuala Lumpur (COBKL) on Tuesday.

"COBKL has issued a letter to the residential management to take action against the lot (and unit) owners to restore the modification to its original form," it said in a statement on Friday.

The statement explained that enforcement falls under the jurisdiction of the building management in line with the Strata Management Act 2013 (Act 757).

"Under section 59 (1) of Act 757, it has been stated that the management's responsibility is to properly maintain and manage the building or land intended to be divided into lots and common property and to keep it in good condition," the statement said as reported by Sinar Harian.

Previously, pictures of the flat's corridors being barricaded with at least one grille installed on each level of the four-story building went viral.

This upset residents who then took to writing on the wall to vent their frustrations, demanding the removal of these additional structures.

Netizens were quick to respond to the issue, calling the perpetrators self-centred, besides throwing snide comments about flat residents having a "taste for finer things" and acting like they stay in a luxury condominium.
