Zahid denies any knowledge of the RM500mil and RM750mil donations mentioned by PM

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he had "no information" on the RM500 million and RM750 million donations, as raised by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in a recent statement.

Zahid, who is also Umno president, said his knowledge about the matter was limited through what was being reported in the media.

"I don't have any additional information on that. I only read about the Prime Minister's statement through the media," he said after attending the Rural and Regional Development Ministry retreat here, today.

Anwar, in a statement on Tuesday, said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had decreed that the palace would not be involved in any political maneuvering

In the same statement, Anwar mentioned that if there were any proposals from any party to donate a sum of RM500 million or RM750 million, it should be channeled directly to the needy and the poor in the country.

His statement caused the opposition to urge him to explain the claims.

This included opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, who had questioned the meaning behind Anwar's statement.

Pas information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari also called for Anwar to shed some light on the matter, as it could cast doubt.
