Confrontation on Penang bridge ends with man and woman falling into the sea [NSTTV]

GEORGE TOWN: A confrontation between a man and a woman at Km 2.8 of the Penang Bridge this evening concluded with both of them falling into the sea.

Fortunately, a man believed to be a soldier, who was passing by and saw the incident, jumped into the sea to rescue the two individuals, in their 30s, before helping them onto a fishing boat.

The Prai fire and rescue station were alerted to the incident around 7:50 pm.

Operations officer Shahrul Munawer Taharen stated that the two were traveling in a Honda Civic, heading towards Prai.

"We were informed that a fight broke out between them at the rest area on the bridge.

"Both then fell into the sea before a man jumped in to rescue them. Fortunately, a fishing boat was nearby.

"Both were assisted onto the boat before being taken to the Batu Uban jetty here," he said.

Shahrul mentioned that both individuals were then handed over to the police for the next course of action.

The operation concluded at 8:35 pm.
