Sarawak govt provides RM59,050 to fire victims in Kampung Bintawa Hilir

KUCHING: The Sarawak government, through the Social Welfare department (JKM), has provided financial assistance totalling RM59,050 to the victims of a fire incident in Kampung Bintawa Hilir that occurred on Jan 5.

The fire had resulted in seven houses being completely burned, while two other houses were partially affected.

Sarawak Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, said the aid was distributed in the form of a check and followed the quantum or portions determined by JKM.

She said it was distributed under the Sarawak Department of Social Welfare (JKMS) disaster relief programme, including cash assistance, food, daily clothing, school uniforms and equipment, bedding, kitchen utensils, and construction materials.

"Today, we are handing over assistance checks to the fire victims after conducting investigations by looking at several family members and the profiles of affected families.

"Therefore, we hope that such assistance can help alleviate the burden of these fire victims during difficult times," she said, according to UKAS.

She made these remarks when speaking to reporters after handing over the aid checks at the temporary relief centre at Dewan Rekreasi Bimajaya Kampung Bintawa Hilir, here on Monday.
