New hemodialysis centre to open in Selangau by mid-2024

SELANGAU: The community here is set to receive a healthcare boost with the projected mid-year opening of the Hemodialysis Center at the Selangau Health Clinic.

UKAS reported that this centre will operate under the Sibu Hospital and aims to provide much-needed dialysis services to the local population.

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni emphasised that this initiative is part of the government's effort to ensure rural communities have access to healthcare facilities similar to those available in urban areas.

"We expect this centre to begin operating by mid-year, and the acquisition process for six dialysis machines is currently underway.

"This is one of the government's initiatives to assist rural communities because, until now, they have not had access to dialysis services, especially in rural and remote areas," he was quoted as saying.

According to UKAS, while the centre will initially be equipped with six dialysis machines, there are plans to expand its capacity to 13 machines in the future.

The Sarawak State Health Department has also recognised the need to establish an emergency unit and X-ray services at the Selangau Health Clinic due to the increasing number of vehicles and activities along the Pan Borneo route.

Lukanisman noted that these additions are under consideration and will follow the usual processes of asset acquisition at the Health Ministry facilities.

The announcement was made during Lukanisman's attendance at the Borneo Tour 2024 Series 2 in Selangau on Tuesday.
