MACC: Ex-PM son's case is a separate investigation

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission's investigation against a former Prime Minister's son is not related to the former Finance Minister Tun Daim Zainuddin's ongoing multi-billion wealth investigation.

Speaking to the New Straits Times, a source from MACC revealed that it was not the first time the former Prime Minister's son had met with MACC investigators.

"His presence at our headquarters yesterday is a separate investigation… not to assist with Daim's ongoing investigation. We have called him in to have his statement recorded twice or thrice before, sometime at the end of last year and he has so far been cooperative," he said clearing the air that both were not related to the same investigation.

Yesterday, however, the source confirmed that they did not record any further statement from the former PM's son.

"But a notice was issued," he said, declining to elaborate further about the notice.

The source added that MACC would be issuing a statement on both investigations later today.

It is learnt that investigation on the former PM's son is also linked to some government-linked companies (GLCs) and business activity he was allegedly part of in the late 1990s and early 2000.

It is also understood that the MACC investigation is mainly focused on a company owned by the individual, which is allegedly a GLC subsidiary.
