KOTA BARU: It was all in a day's work for Constable Muhammad Zuhairie Nayan to ride his motorcycle around the town area daily as part of his duties as a traffic officer.
Last week, while conducting his normal survelliance along Jalan Merbau here about 2.30pm, he saw an elderly woman standing near the traffic lights at SMK Zainab.
He decided to approach the woman who looked like she was facing difficulties crossing the road.
He then sent the woman, who wearing an old batik sarong, to the state mosque.
Zuhairie was unaware that his act of kindness was recorded by an individual who was standing near the mosque gate.
The 27-second video clip went viral on Jan 16 and until this morning, had more than 36,000 views and was shared by 83 people.
It also garnered 846 likes and received more than 50 comments.
As the reward for his kindness, Zuhairie today received a certificate of appreciation from Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun.
Zaki praised Zuhairie for the his great concern and said the good behavior showed by the traffic officer should be an example to all police members and officers in the state.
Meanwhile, Zulhairie who has been with the Kota Baru Traffic Investigation and Enforcement division since three years ago, thanked the police chief for the recognition.
Recalling the incident, Zulhairie who is from Gerik, Perak said he merely carrying out his duties when he spotted the elderly woman.
"At that time, the only thing that l did was worry about her safety. I feared that she might be run over by motorists.
"I went close to her and asked her where she was headed to. She told me she wanted to go to the Muhammadi mosque.
"I felt sorry after seeing her carry two small plastic bags with her. I then asked her to sit on my bike and sent her to the mosque," he said.
Zuhairie said he did not expect that his act would be recorded by an individual and later viralled on social media.
