Traffic advisory: Road closures in KL for Thaipusam chariot procession until Jan 26

KUALA LUMPUR: Several roads in Kuala Lumpur will be closed tomorrow until Jan 26 to make way for the chariot procession in conjunction with Thaipusam celebration.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said the procession will begin from Sri Maha Mariamman Temple on Jalan Tun H. S Lee on Jan 23, 9pm, and is expected to finish at the Sri Subramaniar Temple, Batu Caves, Selangor on Jan 24, 4pm.

The road will also be closed during the Thaipusam celebration on Jan 25.

He said the return parade will begin on Friday, 3pm using the same route.

"To facilitate the movement of this chariot, several main roads and surrounding streets in the city centre will be gradually closed and diverted," he said in a press conference at the KL traffic police station at Jalan Tun H S Lee, here.

Also present was Minister in the Prime Minister's Department overseeing the Federal Territories Dr Zaliha Mustafa for a work visit.

The chariot procession will follow the route for outbound and return as follows:

Jalan Tun H.S. Lee – Jalan Sultan – Jalan Tan Cheng Lock – Jalan Pudu - Jalan Tun

Perak – Jln Leboh Ampang – Jalan Munshi Abdullah – Jalan Dang Wangi – Jalan Raja

Laut – Jalan Belia – Jalan Sri Amar – Jalan Raja Laut – Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah –

Jalan Tun Razak – U Turn - Jln Tun Razak – Jln Perhentian - Jln Sultan Sultan Azlan

Shah - Jln Ipoh Lama (Bt Lima) - Jln Ipoh (KL) (Jalan Salah) - heading towards Bt

Caves roundabout (Jalan Salah daripada MRR2) - susur dari MRR2 – Batu Caves (Jalan Salah & Cross).

Allaudeen advises KL residents and road users to avoid using the roads affected by the closure and diversions during the procession.

"Please comply with the instructions of the on-duty police officers to ensure smooth and controlled traffic conditions.
